Question
[edit]Hi. Am I misremembering or wasn't there a discussion awhile back about getting rid of the "cultural heritage monuments in Russia by id" categories that you filed a bot request related to or was that something else? --Adamant1 (talk) 04:43, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Just an FYI since you didn't answer the question but I know it's something your interested in since you started the original conversation about it on the Village Pump but you might want to look over Template talk:Cultural Heritage Russia#Update on technical categories. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 21:22, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed your earlier post; that was Commons:Bots/Work requests/Archive 17#Monuments database in Russia.
- I'll take a look at the new discussion. Thank you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:36, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
Guidance needed to amend text entered in a template
[edit]Hello Andy, Would you be able to point me to a forum or appropriately experienced editor? I would like to globally edit some of the standard entered text in 1346 image files in the category "Uploaded by Htsa", which were all uploaded in an edit-athon more than 5 years ago (and subsequently the organizers have been unresponsive). They contain typos, coding errors and an incorrect licence. I am not seeking to change the template itself.
Two examples of the things I would like to clear up: the licence, currently a public domain declaration, needs to be a copyright-expired (age) statement. Another -- a fairly trivial typo but there are about 8 of them: against "Source" is the typo "The History Trust of South Australian...", the last word of which should be "South Australia". These typos are in each of the 1346 files.
I am confident editing and coding articles, but my knowledge of changing in bulk is zero. So although this does not involve editing a template itself, I thought that you might be able to nudge me in the right direction so I can be guided/checked by an appropriately experienced editor. - There are a trio of possible approaches:
- ask at Commons:Bots/Work requests
- use AutoWikiBrowser
- use VisualFileChange.js
- LMK if you want to try one of the latter pair and I will talk you through it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:12, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
- Many thanks, Andy! Cheers, Simon – SCHolar44 🇦🇺 💬

Please do not edit war
[edit]

Re-naming the file File:Mabbett and Edge auction postal card Skiddaw Bank, Keswick etc - 1894 - obverse.jpg back-and-forth is edit warring.--Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 15:00, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Josve05a: Attempts to discuss proved futile, look at the history of this page. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:03, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'll continue discussing this on Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Adamant1, but I want to clarify here that two wrongs don’t make a right. Regardless of whether the other editor was being difficult, you made the same revert/move five times, which is also edit warring. Please remember that edit warring applies even if you believe your edits were correct, and the proper course of action is to stop reverting and seek dispute resolution. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 15:08, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- I was referring to your rather optimistic advice that I should "discuss the issues on the relevant talk page". I again invite you to look at the recent history of this page. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:23, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
